Advantage Place Earns EDGE Certification

We are thrilled to announce that Advantage Place, one of our flagship architectural projects, has received EDGE Certification.

S. Tetteh & Associates has always believed that architecture must look to the future, and this certification comes a decade after the completion of Advantage Place. The recognition marks a proud milestone in our ongoing commitment to sustainable, resource-efficient, and climate-resilient design in Ghana.

What is EDGE?
An innovation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC, a member of the World Bank Group), EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) is a global green building standard. EDGE provides a quantitative approach that empowers developers and architects to deliver high-performance buildings that significantly reduce environmental impact while optimising operational costs.

Achieving EDGE certification required Advantage Place to meet stringent savings thresholds across three critical categories: energy, water, and embodied carbon in materials. These were achieved through the following architectural interventions:

  • Optimized Energy Efficiency: Passive solar shading and optimised building orientation, high-performance glazing, and energy-efficient systems that drastically lower the building’s carbon footprint and cooling loads.
  • Water Conservation Technologies: Low-flow fixtures and water-smart infrastructure designed to preserve local resources without compromising user comfort.
  • Sustainable Material Selection: Incorporating building materials that require less energy to manufacture and transport, reducing the project’s overall environmental impact from the ground up.

Unlike the Nearly Zero-Energy Building, the clients of Advantage Place did not set out explicitly to develop a green building. However, the firm’s core principle of environmental stewardship meant that the resulting architecture meets global green building standards.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our clients, Enterprise Properties Ltd, consulting and contracting team, and the dedicated team at S. Tetteh & Associates whose hard work made this achievement possible.
